A shooting at a Pawtucket ice rink left two people dead, just two months after a similar incident at Brown University. Both events took place in locations previously considered safe, traumatizing students and community members. The incidents have sparked renewed calls for action against gun violence in Rhode Island.

All five victims, and the suspect – who is also dead – in the shooting at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena ice rink in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, have been identified, and police are continuing their investigation into a possible motive. Two of the victims were killed, and three others remain in critical condition, according to Rhode Island Hospital.
While the coach made sure the players were safe, three men, including a dad of one of the hockey players, leapt into action to subdue the gunman. Then the coach returned to the scene to help the victims.
The concealed carry permit that skating rink shooter Robert Dorgan obtained in Florida did not automatically entitle Dorgan to legally bring into Rhode Island the guns used to shoot five people in the Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket.
