San Diego Zoo’s (@sandiegozoo) oldest resident has died. Gramma, a Galápagos tortoise, is estimated to be around 141 years old, according to experts. She arrived from the Bronx Zoo between 1928-1931 as a part of the first group of Gálapagos tortoises to come to San Diego and was reportedly welcomed by the zoo’d founder, Dr. Harry Wegeforth. Gramma was described as “a quiet and constant presence at the zoo, a witness to history, a beloved icon, and an extraordinary ambassador for her species.” |

Gramma is talking about all her siblings and parents dying, and complaining how SHE was always the ones with them when they did.
