I always have three steps to trim these porcelain vases. The first step is just to get as much clay out of the bottom as possible, and it generally removes about 80% of the clay that has to come off. The base is still pretty wet, so it’s impossible to remove all the clay. At this point, I don’t want to have to go forward with the trimming of these. There are two of them. But more in the works. My trimming is a three stage process. As soon as the top is dry enough to support turning the pot over, I turn it upside down and trim as much as I can from the bottom. The clay is still really soft there though, and it means I can’t trim anywhere near as much as needs to be trimmed off. And I have to be really careful to hold any trimming tool which is cutting the foot because if the clay is slightly uneven, then the tool can just make a really unfortunate gouge in the bottom of the pot. . .
